You Will Not Win

You Will Not Win

I've just been thinking intently lately about the state of the world. The War In Iraq, the escalating battles between Israel and Lebanon happening now, Afghanistan, 9/11, Al-Qaeda, the domination of this country's political power by right wing nutjobs, and I just have one thing to tell all of these people who want their lives and ours to be dominated by misery and death, You will not win. No you will not win, you architects of death, destruction and war, you cancerous greedy corporate executives who are destoying this country's middle class while making more money than anyone has ever made, you oil worshippers who don't want us to evolve and develop new energy sources because it will make you obsolete, you religious fanatics who want us all to adhere to your warped, evil dogma or die because you are too afraid to abandon your beliefs for more peaceful ones, no, none of you will win. Love, laughter, music, art, friendship, sex, joy, nature and peace will win. I know this because, I know as I write this that there are millions of other people like me, and we out number you. And we are more determined than you to repel your attacks on our culture. Think of history, our side has always won. Gandhi, MLK, The United States in The Civil War, World War II, although we have endured heavy sacrifices, we have WON, and we will continue to WIN. So let me inform you of things you need to get used to, because they will happen in this lifetime. Gays will be allowed to marry and live in peace and happiness, get used to it. Consensual, beautiful, loving sex will continue, amongst all sexualities. Consensual pornography will remain available to buy. Drugs will be legalized, people who wish to spend a day in the park with a guitar and a joint will be left alone, as will people who wish to eat psylocibin mushrooms and touch the face of God. The laws in certain states based in Biblical belief will fade due to common sense, we will be able to buy booze in Georgia on Sunday. Get used to it. We will stop interferring in other countries internal affairs just to browbeat them into submission, there will be NO MORE pre-emptive wars. The culture of Death that Christianity, Islam and Judaism promote will fade, forever, replaced by beautiful new religions actually based in love and empathy. We will save the Earth from money hungry developers who are destroying our country with pop up housing, those houses will come down and the trees you knocked down to put them there will have their vengeance when we replant new ones. The companies who are dumping poisions into our environment will be destroyed by a new Ecology based conciousness that is coming, sorry, IT IS already here and growing. Art will be funded more and the world will be made more beautiful by it's existence. So neo-cons, capitalists, corporate cancers, religious fanatics, your days are numbered. Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll will win out in the end. We have all of history on our side, you still have time to change your ways and join us. Peace,

Mark

Charity Begins Everywhere But Home

I've been wondering lately. Wondering a lot about why certain American celebrities, dignitaries, and political leaders care more about the people and problems of other countries than their own. Angelina Jolie, who I think is one of the most beautiful and intelligent women in the world, has decided to apparently disavow being an American, she has adopted 2 children from other countries and plans on having her biological child born somewhere other than America. Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing but compassion, love and hope for the people, and especially the children of poverty and war stricken nations, I do. I just believe that we, as a nation, have severe problems that need to addressed as well. And since I am an American, I believe people like Angelina Jolie who have the money and means should help the people in the country that gave her the wealth she now possesses. As far I know, she grew up mostly in Los Angeles, California. Why couldn't she have adopted a child from the poverty stricken areas of that region of the U.S.? Listen, I'm not some naive, flag waving, mindless, uber-patriot who doesn't recognize the wrong America has done and my politics are very far left, so don't take me for a far right wing bigot, I'm just a believer in the old addage that charity does indeed begin at home. George Clooney, another person I admire and respect, has now apparently taken on the Darfur Refugee cause as his primary humanitarian concern. I say again, I have nothing but sympathy for those people, and I do believe something should be done, but again why doesn't George help to raise funds for the starving Americans in L.A. or Appalachia or a number of places in this country. Yes I know it's hard to believe, but there are starving, homeless, displaced people in this country. I see them begging on the streets of my hometown Atlanta all of the time, and if that doesn't convince you, ask The Refugees From Katrina, who are still displaced, in poverty, and suffering from the grief of loved ones lost in the storm. I have just been seeing these news reports lately about the aforementioned celebrities actions and it has irritated me, because it seems that their efforts are always in aiding the people of other countries. It seems to me that it's looked down upon with disdain to care about the poor in America, that Americans have some sort of subconcious subtext going on in their minds that, because those people are Americans, they should be able to help themselves. That Americans are embarrassed by their poor but not the poor of other nations. It's almost as if it's an effront to their pride to help their own countrymen, women, and children. I believe strongly in international aid, but it comes to a point where you have to let people of other countries decide their own fate, and not rely on a Bwana figure to help them out. It's an awful truth, many will die, and be killed, atrocities will happen in other countries. It's horrible and sad, but we can influence other countries through political and financial means without trying to rule other countries or adopt them as our homelands. I just hope that one day, I'll see a celebrity on the news that has adopted a baby from the Southside of Chicago, and that the people of Southern Namibia have formed their own unique government.

Peace,

M

My American Idol Rant

My American Idol Rant

by Mark

Why in God's name have we allowed this stupid show to define pop music in this country? A show where the judges are: the ex-bass player from Journey (Randy, yo dog The Wheel In The Sky Keeps On Turnin'), a music industry twit who cares more about making money than hearing good music (Simon Cowell) and a fucking choreographer!!!!!!!!!!! Paula Abdul is a very talented woman as a dancer, but she can't sing at all!! Her singing career was short lived well, because she sucked and the people in this country are letting these three people persuade them as to who should be, basically the next Elvis!!!!!! The winner, essentially the last three finalists are immediately given record contracts, anything they need to get their career going and in 2 weeks their shitty CDs are pouring into Wal-Marts everywhere, where apparently people are devouring them by the masses. I just can't believe that many people want to hear Clay Aiken sing fucking standards!!!!! To hear Ruben Studdard sing Don't Go Changin' by Billy Joel!!!!!!!!!!!!! Argggh!!!!! I mean it's like we're living in some weird after Elvis went into the army, pre-Beatles pop hell. Geez, this has to die, or music will. As a guitarist busting his ass trying to write my own music, this American Idol shit is just annoying. Peace,

M

My First Gig As A Member Of Tayl

I played my first gig with Tayl on February the 17th, I haven't written about it because I really haven't been doing anything but enduring the grief of the loss of my friend for over 2 weeks, but I need to comment on it. Despite the circumstances under which it was played, I believe we did great, there were a few technical problems but I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10. I had a great time, and when I walked in the venue I honestly believe I received a Spiritual Blessing from my friend, it's very personal so I'll keep it secret, but it comforted me and made me feel that everything was going to be alright, I felt the presence of His Soul. We'll here are a few pictures from the show, they're a bit fuzzy, but they are all I have now. We had a professional photographer take pics so I'll be posting those when I can get a copy of them. We are playing Breaker's again in late March, I'll be back with the definitive date, I would appreciate it if you would show up and ROCK with us. Love,

Mark

My School Of Ethics Apparently

Ancient Greek Ethics

Aristotle's Golden Mean is the principal of this ethical school of thought. Essentially everyone must find balance in ethical decisions. Since it is often difficult to come to a decision one way or the other, Aristotle suggests comprimising between two extremes and doing what would fall into 'the Golden Mean' in the situation.

In Memoriam

My best friend died last Sunday, his name was Jonathan Lynn Rigsby. I am devastated. I have barely been able to stay awake this past week, much less able to write, but I'm posting this as a tribute to my friend. His memorial was last Friday, it was beautiful, I'll keep it's details private in respect to him, his family and all of his friends who were there. We were brothers, similar souls searching this world for meaning, adventure, creativity and justice. My life will never be the same without him. God Bless You Jon, I'll miss you until we meet again.

DO NOT BELIEVE IN ANYTHING OUT OF FEAR!

Has anyone besides me noticed how all of the media has become nothing more than a panic inducing machine used to propigate unfounded fears throughout our society? From television shows like 24 about terrorist plots and attacks, to news reports about murder, child abduction, child molestation, robberies, diseases, to watch television has become nothing more than an immersion in a paranoia factory. It apparently gets the networks ratings, the highest rated shows are show like C.S.I., shows where someone dies every week. I myself am a fan of good crime and mystery fiction but this goes way beyond that, we now live in what the Late, Great Hunter S. Thompson called "A Kingdom Of Fear". It seems to me that people want this, as odd as that sounds, that having something to fear some how gives them an identity. It gives them structure, apparently not fearing anything is what many Americans are afraid of most! The myopic, conservative climate alive in the country is using this and in particular the xenophobic fear the "evildoers", whomever they may be, are out to get you. The media concentrates on stories of one missing girl for months while children die everyday in Baghdad and that's just a drive by story on the incessant scroll on the bottom of your TV screen. Terrorists, murderers, rapists, SARS, Bird Flu, the airwaves are saturated with these stories when the reality is that you are a million times more likely to die in a car crash than from any of these things, but people take absurd chances in their cars everyday as they make their way home to cower in fear of so called "internet predators" or imaginary "monsters" waiting outside their bedroom window to snatch their kids and steal their SUV. And, oh, The White House loves it, the need to be protected that this paranoia engenders gives them the freedom to shred the Constitution and start Wars for no reason than other to expand their power, and to have most of this country quivering behind their pseudo-machismo posturing. But, sorry, it doesn't affect me, and there are many others who doesn't affect either. This is personal, but for many years I had severe Panic, OCD, and Anxiety problems, still have some of them but medication, life experience and therapy have helped me tremendously, they still creep in from time to time but I can recognize the symptoms and dismiss it for the mindless fear it is. I lost A LOT OF TIME in my life, fearing things for no logical reason, keeping myself shut in my house and away from the world. I do not do that ANYMORE, AT ALL. The only thing I fear now is missing something I should have been a part of because of a decision made out of mindless, irrational, illogical fear. FDR really made the ultimate statement about this, people quote his comment constantly but I wonder how many have ever really thought about it? The depths it covers? What he was facing when he said it? What he had gone through in his life before it? I'll quote it again, proudly as I end my comments on the Sad, Fearful State Of Our Nation, "The only thing we have to fear, is, fear itself!".

Love,

Mark
