Sonny Perdue Fiddles While Georgia Burns

I got up today and to my surprise saw that the forecast was for, a high of 85 with AM Smoke. Smoke? Again, SMOKE? Where am I living, Hell? Were Flames coming in the afternoon and Brimstone at night? If you are unaware of what I'm talking about, I live in Georgia and there have been horrible fires in the south here near the Okefenokee Swamp. Fires so bad that the smoke has traveled 200 miles up from the origin of the fire, to where I live in Atlanta. The smoke is literally so bad outside that you can see it and it has made the air here, 200 miles away, dangerous to breathe. This is not a joke, it is horribly real. The fires were apparently the result of arson and have spread throughout the entire Okefenokee area and outwards, decimating the south Georgia area, and now the smoke is harming us here. My question is, what the hell is the Governor of my State doing about it? Apparently nothing, he hasn't asked for Federal help to my knowledge when we need it badly and the fires continue. On the television coverage, I see firemen just standing around and looking at the fire, why don't they, oh I don't know, get a goddamn hose? Use planes or helicopters to fight it? Even if they have, it seems now that they are just letting it burn. MY STATE IS ON FIRE!!! And the Governor (a former veterinarian) is busy neutering cats or something. He needs to get off of his ass and do something!!! But the awful truth is that I suspect something more sinister is involved here. I believe that those fires are being allowed to burn, to clear areas for development. Georgia has been a hotbed, no pun intended, of absurd over development for the past decade. We are losing trees and wilderness areas daily for the sake of strip malls and the almighty dollar. This has to stop or this State will be unlivable in a few years. So I ask of the Governor of Georgia, prove you aren't complicit in a cabal of development who's main goal is to destroy the Okefenokee, one of the great wetlands of this nation, a spiritual place, a holy place, to use the land for the sinful purpose of lining up more soulless strip malls and developments that benefit no one but the rich and cheapen life in the State Of Georgia.

Send Paris Hilton To Guantanamo

That's right, send that little spoiled rich brat to jail. Now, I'll be honest, I may be biased about this, I got a DUI, my first legal offense in any way, I had to pay all sorts of money to a lawyer, for fines, for probation, and I spent 18 hours in jail, had to do 40 hours of community service and I had to pay to take a 4 day DUI Prevention Course. Again I reiterate, THIS WAS MY FIRST LEGAL OFFENSE OF ANY KIND. It caused all sorts of financial hardship for me, for a year, you see money actually means something to me, I'm not an heir to a billion dollar hotel chain. But I did it, I didn't mind the community service at all, although I think the money I had to pay out was absurd, but that's another story. Anyway, I again state, this was my first legal offense of any kind, and I am still dealing with it's repercussions over a year later. Paris Hilton is a DUI offender, not only is this just absurd in a rational way(when you are worth millions, I think you could get a ride home from a sober person, hell, she could have a fleet of limos escort her limo home), the fact that she DID IT MULTIPLE TIMES is what's particularly egregious, and even after all of this she was offered a chance to do community service to pay for her crime, as you know money is nothing to her, and she turned it down. What classist arrogance. Her mother has apparently been quoted as saying that her children are beyond the laws other people have to adhere to in this country. Well, I think we should show her classist cow of a mother that her children aren't beyond reproach. Send her golden child to spend a month with terrorists in Cuba, maybe then she'll realize doing community service wouldn't have been such a bad thing, as she hears the Islamic call to prayer for her roomies 6 times a day. Also, why the hell is this girl famous? For being rich, that's all. She's only moderately attractive, has no talent and merely gets press, well, for just being alive. Is that how we want this country to work? To force us to bow before a sort of "American Royalty" just because they have money? I thought we fought a little war to get away from monarchism. At least actors, athletes and musicians who are "celebrities" have a talent that made them what they are, Paris Hilton's talent is......? This classism is far more epidemic is this country that most people are aware of. It's despicable and needs to be addressed, not lauded as the celebrity media does. By the way, there is another reason I have so much anger about this situation, one of my best friends was killed by a repeat DUI offender, and my best friend's life was destroyed by the legal and financial problems he incurred due to his repeat DUI offenses, he didn't have billions to bail him out, he died last year. I am not guiltless, I broke the law, I served my sentence, paid my fines and I will not ever do that again, again it was my first offense, not an excuse, just a statement. We should make a statement and send a message to the classist Hilton family and send Paris to Guantanamo.

Peace,

Mark

The Crucifixion Of Don Imus

I would like to congratulate MSNBC for showing us the true nature of the cowardice of their network, and for showing us how they truly don't believe in the very 1st Amendment of our Constitutiuon that protects them. As many of you are aware, talk show host Don Imus has been fired by MSNBC, for, of all things, a joke. A joke that ironically was stated before the start of the Eostre Celebration Weekend. I'll recap for those of you who don't know. He referred to the Rutger's Women's basketball team as nappy headed hos, not in a insulting context but in comparing their toughness as a team to the team that they were playing. He has said that there was no malice in his heart when he said it, and I believe him. I believe him because I watched his show. It is at it's very core is a comedy and satire show that makes fun of everyone and has for over 30 years. He has attacked and satirized everyone from the left to the right and all shades in between, and the people who are made fun of most on his show are the very members of the show itself, including Imus, his newsman and friend Charles, and even his wife. He is no Rush Limbaugh, no right wing rabid nutjob. If he were, I as a very liberal person would not watch or listen to his show. He truly is an equal opportunity offender, and God knows we need more of those, to save us from the many tentacled, strangling monster of political correctness. As the journalist H.L. Mencken said, and I'm paraphrasing here, the job of the news is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable, and Don Imus has lived that on his show. Not only is Don Imus a talented satirist and comedian, he is also a person who has had countless journalists, writers, musicians, politicians, and social commentators on his show, and has proved his worth as an interviewer during his discussions with them. He also has brought to light many social and political issues on his show and exposed many people, including myself, to books, music and issues that may have been kept in the dark, except for his efforts, and the efforts of his staff and contributors. This is not to say I supported his remarks about the Rutger's Women's basketball team, they were at worst, a bad joke. That is all. He has apologized almost everday now for them since it happened to the the point of absurdity and that still is not enough blood for the societal piranhas that have crucified him. Even I, as a fan, have become furious at him at times, especially when he supported Joe Lieberman in his Senate race after his primary loss to Democrat Ned Lamont. I believe what Lieberman did by running and eventually winning as an independent and then changing his affiliation back to Democrat was, in fact, a subversion of democracy itself. But that did not make me call for his firing or stop me from being a fan, and his support for Lieberman, in my view, was just as egregious, if not more so, as the remarks he made about the Rutger's Women's basketball team. I continued to watch his show and continued to be informed and to laugh, does anybody remember what that is? What I would like to know is where was Al Sharpton and Imus' other critics when Rush Limbaugh recently attacked John and Elizabeth Edwards on his show after they announced she had incurable cancer and that John would still be in the 2008 Presidential race? Where were the calls for Limbaugh's firing after the myriad racially insensitive remarks he has made, that he arguably was NOT joking about? I hear crickets chirping. Now here is where I get a little personal and sentimental about this situation, to inform you of some things Don Imus has done that show me he IS a good person and did not deserve this cowardly firing from MSNBC. This transcends my admiration for him as a comedian and social critic. You see, my father died of lung cancer when I was 7, I watched him turn from a brawny, WW2 Veteran Sailor with arms like Popeye, into a dessicated, suffering mummy before he died. My stepfather died of lung cancer as well, and I watched a similar thing happen to him, so I have had first hand experiences of the horrors of cancer, not only for the afflicted but for their families. Don Imus, as you may or may not know, runs a ranch in New Mexico for kids with cancer and other debilitating diseases, a place where they can have fun for a while and not have to dwell on their dire situation, for some of them their time at the ranch has been a part of their last moments in this life, he also has children there who have been affected by cancer by watching their siblings, or parents, suffer from it. As he has said, Don Imus, does not need the money from his job, he is a multi-millionare, he can sit by and live very comfortably on interest for the rest of his life. But his job, his former television show and his radio show, which by the way is now in jeopardy, gave him an outlet to acquire more funds for the ranch and other charities he donates to. now part of that has been taken away, he no longer has a television outlet to raise money and awareness for these things. Apparently some of the kids who have been to the ranch are kids with sickle cell anemia, this is an African-American disease, a teacher who worked with my mother, also a teacher, died from it in his early 30's recently. Even though I was not close to him, my mother's discussions of it increased my awareness of what he was going through, the horror of it. When Imus was a guest on Al Sharpton's show, Al Sharpton, charitable man of God, former Presidential candidate, did not even know how much federal money was spent to fund research into sickle cell anemia, Imus knew the exact paltry amount compared to the other things our government spends money on. In closing, I would like to point out that at the beginning of the week in which his unfortunate comments occured, Imus flew to my hometown of Atlanta, Georgia to pick up a black child with eye cancer, I feel horror and dread just typing that, I cannot imagine what this kid is going through, but Imus came and got him and took him to New York, I believe it was for treatment. And if the firing from MSNBC wasn't enough, they took him off the air, the very day before he was to have a radio fund raiser today and tomorrow for the Imus Ranch and SIDS research. So, all of the people who watched his show from MSNBC and did not or could not listen to it on the radio, missed this fundraiser. Bravo MSNBC, you let political correctness trump charity. For all he has done, Don Imus does not deserve to have his career end over a bad joke.

Peace and Love,

Mark

Happy Eostre!!! The Celebration of Life and Renewal and the Worship of the Goddess Eostre.

I have seen many comedians make jokes asking what bunnies, eggs, and baskets have to do with Easter? The real question is what does the execution of a jewish dissident named Jesus have to do with the time of the year in which the Anglo-Saxon Goddess of Fertility and Spring, Eostre (or Ostara) was worshipped and celebrated? The answer is nothing, except for one thing, the fact that Christians have taken over and inserted their Spiritual celebrations over most Pagan ones in the hopes of erasing the truth about the true origins of the celebrations. You see, if you knew that these celebrations, from Halloween To Christmas and many others throughout the year, came directly from Pagan Celebrations, you might question why the Christian and Jewish Celebrations happened to fall right at the same times throughout the year? The answer I have already given you, to stomp out their origins and insert the worship of the Christian and Jewish God over these times of the year. Erasing any train of thought that venerates any other Gods other than Jehovah, thus forcing everyone to bow to their God, to be under their control. Well, I for one am not. I have my own God. And my question is, what does a cross and a religion of pain, blood and death have to do with the Easter Bunny?

Peace,

Mark

You Will Not Win

You Will Not Win

I've just been thinking intently lately about the state of the world. The War In Iraq, the escalating battles between Israel and Lebanon happening now, Afghanistan, 9/11, Al-Qaeda, the domination of this country's political power by right wing nutjobs, and I just have one thing to tell all of these people who want their lives and ours to be dominated by misery and death, You will not win. No you will not win, you architects of death, destruction and war, you cancerous greedy corporate executives who are destoying this country's middle class while making more money than anyone has ever made, you oil worshippers who don't want us to evolve and develop new energy sources because it will make you obsolete, you religious fanatics who want us all to adhere to your warped, evil dogma or die because you are too afraid to abandon your beliefs for more peaceful ones, no, none of you will win. Love, laughter, music, art, friendship, sex, joy, nature and peace will win. I know this because, I know as I write this that there are millions of other people like me, and we out number you. And we are more determined than you to repel your attacks on our culture. Think of history, our side has always won. Gandhi, MLK, The United States in The Civil War, World War II, although we have endured heavy sacrifices, we have WON, and we will continue to WIN. So let me inform you of things you need to get used to, because they will happen in this lifetime. Gays will be allowed to marry and live in peace and happiness, get used to it. Consensual, beautiful, loving sex will continue, amongst all sexualities. Consensual pornography will remain available to buy. Drugs will be legalized, people who wish to spend a day in the park with a guitar and a joint will be left alone, as will people who wish to eat psylocibin mushrooms and touch the face of God. The laws in certain states based in Biblical belief will fade due to common sense, we will be able to buy booze in Georgia on Sunday. Get used to it. We will stop interferring in other countries internal affairs just to browbeat them into submission, there will be NO MORE pre-emptive wars. The culture of Death that Christianity, Islam and Judaism promote will fade, forever, replaced by beautiful new religions actually based in love and empathy. We will save the Earth from money hungry developers who are destroying our country with pop up housing, those houses will come down and the trees you knocked down to put them there will have their vengeance when we replant new ones. The companies who are dumping poisions into our environment will be destroyed by a new Ecology based conciousness that is coming, sorry, IT IS already here and growing. Art will be funded more and the world will be made more beautiful by it's existence. So neo-cons, capitalists, corporate cancers, religious fanatics, your days are numbered. Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll will win out in the end. We have all of history on our side, you still have time to change your ways and join us. Peace,

Mark

Charity Begins Everywhere But Home

I've been wondering lately. Wondering a lot about why certain American celebrities, dignitaries, and political leaders care more about the people and problems of other countries than their own. Angelina Jolie, who I think is one of the most beautiful and intelligent women in the world, has decided to apparently disavow being an American, she has adopted 2 children from other countries and plans on having her biological child born somewhere other than America. Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing but compassion, love and hope for the people, and especially the children of poverty and war stricken nations, I do. I just believe that we, as a nation, have severe problems that need to addressed as well. And since I am an American, I believe people like Angelina Jolie who have the money and means should help the people in the country that gave her the wealth she now possesses. As far I know, she grew up mostly in Los Angeles, California. Why couldn't she have adopted a child from the poverty stricken areas of that region of the U.S.? Listen, I'm not some naive, flag waving, mindless, uber-patriot who doesn't recognize the wrong America has done and my politics are very far left, so don't take me for a far right wing bigot, I'm just a believer in the old addage that charity does indeed begin at home. George Clooney, another person I admire and respect, has now apparently taken on the Darfur Refugee cause as his primary humanitarian concern. I say again, I have nothing but sympathy for those people, and I do believe something should be done, but again why doesn't George help to raise funds for the starving Americans in L.A. or Appalachia or a number of places in this country. Yes I know it's hard to believe, but there are starving, homeless, displaced people in this country. I see them begging on the streets of my hometown Atlanta all of the time, and if that doesn't convince you, ask The Refugees From Katrina, who are still displaced, in poverty, and suffering from the grief of loved ones lost in the storm. I have just been seeing these news reports lately about the aforementioned celebrities actions and it has irritated me, because it seems that their efforts are always in aiding the people of other countries. It seems to me that it's looked down upon with disdain to care about the poor in America, that Americans have some sort of subconcious subtext going on in their minds that, because those people are Americans, they should be able to help themselves. That Americans are embarrassed by their poor but not the poor of other nations. It's almost as if it's an effront to their pride to help their own countrymen, women, and children. I believe strongly in international aid, but it comes to a point where you have to let people of other countries decide their own fate, and not rely on a Bwana figure to help them out. It's an awful truth, many will die, and be killed, atrocities will happen in other countries. It's horrible and sad, but we can influence other countries through political and financial means without trying to rule other countries or adopt them as our homelands. I just hope that one day, I'll see a celebrity on the news that has adopted a baby from the Southside of Chicago, and that the people of Southern Namibia have formed their own unique government.

Peace,

M

My American Idol Rant

My American Idol Rant

by Mark

Why in God's name have we allowed this stupid show to define pop music in this country? A show where the judges are: the ex-bass player from Journey (Randy, yo dog The Wheel In The Sky Keeps On Turnin'), a music industry twit who cares more about making money than hearing good music (Simon Cowell) and a fucking choreographer!!!!!!!!!!! Paula Abdul is a very talented woman as a dancer, but she can't sing at all!! Her singing career was short lived well, because she sucked and the people in this country are letting these three people persuade them as to who should be, basically the next Elvis!!!!!! The winner, essentially the last three finalists are immediately given record contracts, anything they need to get their career going and in 2 weeks their shitty CDs are pouring into Wal-Marts everywhere, where apparently people are devouring them by the masses. I just can't believe that many people want to hear Clay Aiken sing fucking standards!!!!! To hear Ruben Studdard sing Don't Go Changin' by Billy Joel!!!!!!!!!!!!! Argggh!!!!! I mean it's like we're living in some weird after Elvis went into the army, pre-Beatles pop hell. Geez, this has to die, or music will. As a guitarist busting his ass trying to write my own music, this American Idol shit is just annoying. Peace,

M

My First Gig As A Member Of Tayl

I played my first gig with Tayl on February the 17th, I haven't written about it because I really haven't been doing anything but enduring the grief of the loss of my friend for over 2 weeks, but I need to comment on it. Despite the circumstances under which it was played, I believe we did great, there were a few technical problems but I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10. I had a great time, and when I walked in the venue I honestly believe I received a Spiritual Blessing from my friend, it's very personal so I'll keep it secret, but it comforted me and made me feel that everything was going to be alright, I felt the presence of His Soul. We'll here are a few pictures from the show, they're a bit fuzzy, but they are all I have now. We had a professional photographer take pics so I'll be posting those when I can get a copy of them. We are playing Breaker's again in late March, I'll be back with the definitive date, I would appreciate it if you would show up and ROCK with us. Love,

Mark
